In the early 2000s, some LGB activists argued that the "T" was a distraction—that the fight for same-sex marriage was "winnable" while trans inclusion was too complex for the mainstream. This "drop the T" sentiment, though fringe, exposed a painful truth: LGB individuals benefit from cisgender privilege. A cisgender gay man may face homophobia, but he does not face the unique violence of being misgendered or denied medical care for gender dysphoria.
